Some retailers of the DIY world are offering a service dedicated to rent the DIY equipment with free option for the first 48 hours. Actually the service does work just in a few European countries but may become one of the most interesting marketing tools for the retail network, in order to increase the number of customers.

Thanks to the sharing economy and the www, there are more and more touchpoints where the consumer may meet and exchange experiences not only on DIY, but also about DIY tools .

How can the retailer be more and more competitive with their services?

The solutions already presented on the market are multiple; an interesting idea is also offered by a recent study by Euromonitor International, presented at the last MADE4DIY National Forum which was held on 12.12.2016 in Milan.

Some efforts in Europe have already been made by some EU players in; first of all from Leroy Merlin France. In fact the retailer start offering a service of DIY tools loan that is free for the first 48 hours after the activation of the loan.

This service allows the customer to rent the DIY tools directly from the internet: via app or even through social, then simply and rapidly. 

It would be convenient to launch the service also in Italy?

Our answer must be … why not !

By providing two days of free rental, the retailer will be able to obtain several advantages, starting with the indirect promotion of business through word of mouth. Free loan of some tools (although limited to the first days of activation) would also encourage the loyalty of an increasingly wide set of potential buyers. Or, at least, could bring to the world of DIY a greater number of consumers, helping to grow the turnover of the whole sector.
