UK non food sales slowdown in the first months of 2018


According to the latest BRC-KPMG report, the value of sales of non-food products in the UK market is down in January and February 2018.

Here are some data on the slowdown in spending on the English market for non-food categories:

-In the months of January and February, in-store sales of non-food items decreased by 2.4% on a total basis and by 3.3% on a like-for-like basis. On a 12 month basis, the total decline was 2.2%.

-In the January-February period, retail sales of non-food products in the United Kingdom decreased 1.1% on a like-for-like basis and 0.5% on a total basis.

- Online sales of non-food products grew by 6.4% in February, against the growth of 8.0% in February 2017. The online penetration rate increased from 20.5% in February 2017 to 21.1% in February 2018.

So, the only positive note in this period seems to be the online world, even if a slight slowdown was also recorded by e-commerce.
